Featured Student: Kylie Rivers

Kylie Rivers is an Information Science Major, with an emphasis in Information Technology (IT), and a Spanish and Latin American Studies Minor. She plans to graduate in the Spring of 2020.

Why did you major in Information Science? I had an idea of what I thought I wanted to study when I started at GB, but no final decisions were made. After speaking with the advisers on campus and discovering what was available to me, I soon came across the Information Science, specifically IT emphasis, program. I did more research and met with the department head, got a better grasp on the program, and finally felt I found where I was meant to be. I’ve always had a fascination and natural expertise with technology, as well as communication, which helped this decision. I was also declared in the program before the end of my second year at GB.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I plan on starting my career back home in Racine with a local manufacturing company I interned at over this past winter break. I will be working for Reed Switch Developments Corp. as an Info Tech/Sci and Engineering Technologist, working in their IT department and working on programming for various software/devices.

What academic experience or accomplishment are you most proud of? The academic experience I’m most proud of are my two, IT-related internships and my ability to complete my undergrad studies within the four years I’ve been here, while simultaneously dealing with everything life has thrown at me during this time. Moving to GB was a big adjustment for me, but a good one nonetheless.

What single thing do you hope to accomplish at UWGB before graduating? The one thing I hope to accomplish before graduation is learning to make the most out of the time I have left, whether that be hanging with friends, attending events on/off campus, or just learning to appreciate the little things just a bit more. Life, not just college, has gone so fast. Appreciating the little things along the way makes a huge difference in outlook in my life.

What do you do for fun? For fun, I am a huge Pokémon nerd and have been since I was about 7 years old. Given that, I regularly play Pokémon Go on campus. Another favorite hobby of mine is doing nail art on myself or friends.

What else do you want people to know about you? I think people should know about me is that college has made me grow in ways I never thought were possible. I’ve had to work hard to get where I wanted to be, and I am so proud that I pushed myself to get where I’m at now. I value all the love and support from all the people I know, worked with, met, and even formed friendships with, throughout my time here at GB, and I’m super excited to see how all of this experience has in store for my future.
