Cassandra Matte is majoring in Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health and minoring in both Human Development and Women & Gender Studies. She plans on graduating in May of 2021.
Why did you decide to major in Psychology? I decided to major in Psychology for many reasons the biggest one being that I love learning about the brain and the processes in how our minds work especially related to mental health. I took intro to psychology class my freshman year and loved everything about it.
What are your plans after graduation? After graduation at UWGB I plan to attend grad school and pursue a degree in Clinical Social Work.
What academic experience or accomplishment are you most proud of? The academic experience I’m most proud of thus far is my internship at Foxview Intermediate. This year we have faced many challenges with everything that is going on in the world. We started the school year normal working with teachers and students in the classroom and running the alternative lunch program, things were going well until students went virtual. Now things look different and we work with few children in the school but I’m beyond blessed to still have the opportunity to work with the children! It is so rewarding helping students through this difficult time and helping them be successful in their classes.
What single thing do you hope to accomplish at UWGB before graduating? Looking back at my last answer I hope to accomplish going back to being in the classroom with teachers and students at Foxview. I enjoyed getting to work with my class and help around the classroom.
What do you do for fun? For fun I like to volunteer with my sorority, Psi Theta Nu. I love giving back to the community and being able to help at our philanthropy and around the Green Bay Area. There are so many options to get involved in your community and make connections.
What else do you want people to know? I never pictured I would be where I am today. Coming into college I did not put myself out there and try new experiences, If past me would have known how much the UWGB campus would grow on me I would have put myself out there much earlier. I am thankful to be involved all over campus, Working as the Building Services Coordinator the the University Union, being the President of a Sorority and being involved in committees, being Events chair and then President of Greek Council, being Public Relations for PsyHD, being an intern, and more. Overall I am thankful for all the wonderful experiences that have come my way. I hope every nervous first year student reads my story and other stories like mine and takes steps outside their comfort zone to be involved in college.
