Carrie Dorski is the Community Engagement Manger at the Door County Martime Museum. She is a 2011 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a major in Gallery and Museum Practices with and emphasis in Arts Management.
When did you graduate? 2011
What did you major/minor in? Gallery & Museum Practices with an emphasis in Arts Management
What do you do now? I’m the Community Engagement Manager at the Door County Maritime Museum
Why did you decide to major in this? I was originally planning to do something with Arts Education, but after meeting with Ellen Rosewall, I learned a lot about the non-profit world and decided to set out on a path to work in non-profits and the arts.
What academic experience or accomplishment are you most proud of? I really enjoyed arranging the schedule for the 407 Gallery in the Studio Arts building, working in the Lawton Gallery, and helping to hang artwork from the permanent collection around campus. One of the most memorable 407 Gallery Shows was called “Trashion the Place“. One of the projects I’m most proud of was the Academic Excellence Symposium where a group of us from Arts Management created a piece titled “Out of War Comes Peace“.
What is an important goal or accomplishment you are currently working on? I am currently planning the 26th Annual Door County Lighthouse Festival along with the rest of our 2019 season fundraising events. I am very proud of the fundraising events I accomplished in 2018 when I started at the museum – I helped grow our event income for the Lighthouse Festival by 29% and our Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival by 99%.
What do you do for fun? I spend most of my free time with my husband and our two dogs. We enjoy hiking the Door County Land Trust trails and State Park trails. We love to camp and travel – In 2017 we spent three weeks traveling the country and exploring nine national parks.
What else do you want people to know about you? I am so proud of the educational experiences I had while I was attending UWGB, from internships to volunteer opportunities, I was really able to immerse myself into the Northeast Wisconsin community. Because of the education I received and the connections I made, I have found a career path that I am very passionate about. I love my job and the work I do helping to preserve Door County’s maritime history.
