Common CAHSS 2021: Monuments, Critical Race Theory, and the Teaching of History

Common CAHSS 2021: Monuments, Critical Race Theory, and the Teaching of History (Moderator: Clif Ganyard; Panelist: Heidi Sherman, Mark Karau, David Voelker, and Jillian Jacklin) was recorded live Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

Recently, there have been calls for the removal of confederate or imperialist statues as well as criticisms of Critical Race Theory and its role in schools. This panel will examine the impact these developments have had on how history is and may be taught.

The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences for the third annual Common CAHSS Conference 2021 event themed “Truth, Information, Misinformation, and Democracy,” sought to explore the role of the modern university in supporting the “continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone the truth can be found,” which has been part of the University of Wisconsin identity for over a century.

This Common CAHSS 2021: Truth talk was recorded in Jean Weidner Theatre in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
