Featured Student: Hannah Malmberg

Hannah Malmberg is double major in Political Science and Communication, emphasis in Mass Media, with a Global Studies minor.

When do you plan on graduating? I am graduating this December.

Why did you major in Political Science and Communication and minor in Global Studies? I initially majored only in Communication, Mass Media emphasis. I chose Communication and my emphasis because I have always been interested in production along with media and its impact on our society. In high school, I used to want to go to film school! I decided to move from minoring in Political Science to majoring in it because I have long been politically engaged and interested. My interests were initially more focused on international relations but through my studies, I have also gained a larger interest in state and local government and Public Administration. I want to help make our society a better place for all and I feel as though I can help do that through political action and governmental work. I chose to minor in Global Studies because it fits so well with Political Science and I wanted to be able to learn more about the global community.

What are your plans for after graduation? Following graduation, I hope to get some further work experience that combines my two majors before getting a Master’s degree in either Public Administration or Public Policy.

What academic experience or accomplishment are you most proud of? Last semester I received a University Leadership Award and this semester I am nominated for the Chancellor’s Medallion. To see all of your hard work be acknowledged is really special, especially when the nominations come from faculty who helped you get to where you are.

What single thing do you hope to accomplish at UWGB before graduating? I hope to have made a positive experience on this school and community and to have left it even better and stronger than when I started here.

What do you do for fun? I love to watch movies (and discuss them afterward), explore new places with friends, listen to music and create music playlists, do video editing, and go to cat cafes! I also enjoy being a member of UWGB’s Habitat for Humanity chapter.

What else do you want people to know about you? Two of my favorite experiences at UWGB involved traveling. In the winter of 2018 I went on a travel course to Ecuador and in the winter of 2019 I went to Maui, Hawaii on a build trip with UWGB Habitat for Humanity. Both experiences were educational, fun, challenging, and taught me a lot about myself.
