Featured Student: Rosalyn Stoa

Rosalyn Stoa (pictured right) is a double major in Psychology and in Business with emphases in marketing and HR, as well as a coaching certificate.

When do you plan on graduating? May 2020

Why did you major in Psychology, Business, and a coaching certificate? I started as a business major because that’s what my dad did, but always had a passion for psychology. I started out a psych minor, but after my class in Research Methods, I realized that I had a true passion for psychology and a minor would not be enough. I’ve found that psychology quite often overlaps with business and coaching and has helped me approach problems from a unique standpoint. I really enjoy seeing how theories play out in real life. I added the coaching certificate because athletics are a passion of mine and while I may not have a coaching career, I do coach for the swim team here and a local swim club.

What are your plans for after graduation? I’m looking to go to grad school and get my PhD in either social or I/O psych.

What academic experience or accomplishment are you most proud of? Either publishing two peer-reviewed papers or presenting research at the American Psychological Association Convention this summer. It was really cool to interact with academics who are established in their field and yet still find my research interesting. There were so many sessions to go to – I learned all about gun control, positive psychology, psychedelic therapy, incarcerated veteran rehab programs, and teaching. I saw so many cool researchers, including Dr. Zimbardo of Stanford Prison Experiment fame and Dr. Carol Dweck of Growth Mindset glory, and met many other super awesome professors.

What single thing do you hope to accomplish at UWGB before graduating? I’m still trying to get into the Richter Museum and see the taxidermy in there. It’s been a goal of mine ever since freshman year (I’m a fifth year now) and I think it finally may happen through my intro to ceramics class.

What do you do for fun? I like to cook, do puzzles, read, paint with Bob Ross, play cribbage. I think life in general is fun, so this question is kind of hard. It’s all fun!

What else do you want people to know about you? When I’m out of town or on vacation, I refuse to eat at a restaurant that I can find in Green Bay. There’s so much other food out there to try!
