Common CAHSS: No Justice, No Sustainability

February 23 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm

The year 2020 was tumultuous in many ways. Heading into 2021, many people eagerly anticipate a return to what we often call “normal.” But the pre-2020 status quo was highly unsustainable in many ways, including in the area of racial equity and justice in the United States. This panel discussion, held during Black History Month, will explore the critical need to continue working toward racial justice as a key aspect of addressing the problem of unsustainability, both on campus and in society at large.

The ‘No Justice, No Sustainability’ Panel is the February installment of Common CAHSS.

The Panelists

Hannah Beauchamp-Pope is a sophomore at UW-Green Bay and plans to double major in Human Biology and Democracy and Justice Studies. After joining Tamika Mallory’s National Day of Outrage in solidarity after the murder of Atatiana Jefferson by Fort Worth Texas Police she became an active leader in calling for justice for black lives and continued after the 2020 Black Lives Matter movements as well. She is also the Vice President of Black Student Union and has worked to create a non-profit organization called We the Change-Makers with other local activists who are dedicated to creating change

Miriam Brabham is a Multicultural Advisor for the Multiethnic Student Affairs office, MESA. While new to her role, she is not new to the issues of sustainability, social justice, and racial justice issues.

Hanette Kamanda is a UWGB Senior, majoring in Psychology with an emphasis in mental health and gender and culture diversity, and minoring in Women’s and Gender Studies and Human Development. She is from Milwaukee, and she’s the student developer of BIPOC R.I.S.E (reaching intersectional strengths through engagement).

Krysta Venegas is from Racine, WI. She is majoring in Democracy and Justice Studies with an emphasis in Legal Studies. With her degree, she will aim to end the social and racial inequalities that have plagued the value of this nation.
