Green Bay Viking Festival
October 2 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
You are invited to the first Green Bay Viking Festival!
On Saturday, October 2nd, Vikings from near and far will gather and raise an encampment on the UW-Green Bay Viking House grounds. From 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., the Vikings will demonstrate crafts common to Scandinavia over a thousand years ago: smithing, woodworking, weaving, flax processing, and the preparation of authentic Viking recipes. Live Viking battle reenactments, hear singing, storytelling, and take dance lessons from a Viking sorceress, Kari Tauring! There will also be games and activities for kids all day, and guided tours of the Viking House given by the couple who built it, Elspeth and Owen Christianson. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about Norwegian culture from one of our supporters and long-time sponsors, The Sons of Norway.
Admittance: The event is free and open to the public.
Location of Green Bay Viking Festival: The Univerisity of Wisconsin-Green Bay Main Campus Viking House, next to the Wood Hall Parking Lot (see map).

Women in the Viking Age: Songs, Stories, and Mind-Blowing Facts with Kari Tauring: Come hear Kari, a modern staff carrying woman (völva in Old Norse language), debunk the Hollywood stereotypes of Viking Age women. Entrepreneurs, farm managers, producers of food and clothing, spiritual leaders and rulers, women (both human and divine) were essential to the success of the Viking expeditions and the perpetuation of culture in the homeland. Kari will also sing from the Eddas (ancient Nordic poems), tell stories, and play her nature-magical instruments.
1:15 PM & 3:00 PM
Circle Dance: Join in as we do a simple side-step dance to a Nordic ballad in call and response!
