Global Studies Discussion of Recent Hong Kong Protests

November 1, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am

Join Laurie Dennis, Associate Director of UW China Initiative and Affiliate of UW Center for East Asian Studies, and two UW Law School students with expertise on the topic, Alfred Tsai (Taiwan) and Jack Ji (China), as we discuss recent Hong Kong protests on our campus. We are incredibly fortunate to have our UW colleagues coming to our campus to discuss this important international develpment. Director Dennis reports that the panelists (who will offer different perspectives on the topic) will discuss and then answer questions about the current state of the protests, the perspective of Taiwan/Mainland China/American media, and also historical considerations, such as the recent 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China’s founding in Beijing, Hong Kong’s recent history as a British colony, and the official “One Country/Two Systems” policy.

Not to be missed!
